Eat El Paso!

Shangri La Restaurant and Bar
by Leanne Hedrick

An indoor garden of blooming trees surrounding traditional Chinese soldier statues greets visitors, while soothing tones of maroon and tan set off the white tablecloth service. Definitely an upscale experience, the service is solidly dependable and the food measures up to the ambience. For fun, try the shark fin soup. It’s delicately flavored to accent the meaty bites of firm meat. The General’s Chicken – which can be heavy and over-breaded at other establishments – is a nice blending of lightly coated bits of chicken breast in a velvety-smooth sauce with just a hint of spice and not too much salt. Noodle lovers should try the scallops. They’re sautéed and served over fresh, light noodles giving the dish a fine balance of Asian flavors. Soy sauce and hot chili oil are provided at the table – but really, this food needs no additions. It’s just right the way it’s served. Full bar. $$$
